Get into the Christmas spirit with Within These Walls... read more
With Christmas a matter of weeks away and Halloween a distant memory, now seems like the perfect time to get your home ready for the festive period. So it seemed only fitting that we use a true Christmas fan to show us how she is styling her home this season. Step forward Cara from Within These Walls and get us into the festive spirit…
As with every year, as soon as the chill is in the air from early October onwards all I start to think about is the Christmas period. I really love styling my home and this is the one season where I can pull out all the stops with candles and fairy lights. My personal taste in Christmas decorations is very simplistic, traditional but unmistakeably festive. (With some child-friendly fabric mantras thrown in for good measure)
Laura Ashley as a brand always complements my interior ideas, especially as I live in a period cottage. So it goes without saying that I was excited to see what staple items would be in the new collection. I love adding texture to my home with throws, rug and cushions so my first stop every year is to look for these. It doesn’t help that our house is often very cold at night so I like to layer up!
The Louise Silver throw is absolutely the most luxurious thing I have had the pleasure to cosy up under. I love its thickness, softness and the fact that it can make any bedroom look so chic. I have layered it over a linen duvet and draped an extra throw on top for extra cosiness. The deep grey colour is such a fab neutral that it will work with loads of colour schemes. I’ve put a pop of purple with it and I think it compliments it really well.
I mentioned earlier that Christmas means the door flings wide open for my candle obsession to run free. I chose three scents from the Christmas collection. The Winter Fruits, Frosted Woodland and Mulled Spiced. All of which are stunning but I really love the frosted woodland candle the most as it has a pine tree smell to it and this is the only time of year you can really embrace that scent on a whole new level. They come in frosted class containers with a festive bow design and would make the perfect gift. I have been burning them already so I will need to stock up again closer to Christmas. The smell is really getting me in the mood and has even given me a nudge to start thinking about buying some gifts! (I’m a last minute present buyer normally)
Lastly I chose the Lit Winter Wreath because I wanted to use it indoors as extra mood lighting at the start of December and then I will pop it on the front door closer to Christmas Day. It has a lovely mix of pinecones and holly. A nice classic understated wreath that when it is lit up at night transforms into a real wow factor. It has seemly attracted the attention of my Basset hound and unfortunately a few berries didn’t make it through the encounter. Luckily you can’t tell!
I am now just waiting patiently until it is classed as acceptable to get all the decorations out of the garage. Most years I just bring out an item each day, that way my husband has no idea that Christmas is slowly about to engulf him!
