HHH1 It’s always difficult redecorating your children’s bedroom as they get closer to becoming teenagers. You want to ensure they have something a little more grown up. Sue from Home Heart Harmony did just that and lucky for us she’s shared her simple yet effective updates that gave her daughter’s bedroom a much-needed refresh and left one young lady very happy…

Having recently redecorated our son’s bedroom, our daughter, Ella, was not exactly backwards in coming forwards to let us know that it must now be her turn. When the opportunity to partner up with Laura Ashley came along, we were over-the-moon excited having been long-time fans of their stunning selection of home-wear and accessories.

We have previously used Laura Ashley designs in our living room and master bedroom and didn’t waste a second in checking out their ranges of wallpapers, paints, curtains, bedding and soft-furnishings. I knew that we would find something perfect for a more grown-up, yet timeless look for our soon-to-be-teenage girl.

As our gorgeous young lady is now starting to discover her own style and becoming more and more independent by the day, we wanted to give her some freedom to make her own decisions about a scheme which would suit her, both now and in the future. We sat together and discussed inspiration and ideas, researching wallpapers, paints and decorating styles. We had recently installed white-painted faux panelling in our son’s room and we all fell in love with the clean, airy look. We discussed how this could be incorporated into a more feminine design scheme and agreed that a pretty wallpaper above the panelling would be perfect to bring a touch of elegance to the space.

HHH2 Having looked at all the options, Ella selected Laura Ashley’s Josette wallpaper in duck egg. We had used duck-egg in our living room and we all agreed that it was a relaxing colour that would work perfectly in a bedroom. As soon as we started hanging the wallpaper above the white-painted panelling, we immediately knew that it was a great choice. The white in the pattern was highlighted by the paint and the whole space was lifted by the gentle duck-egg shade.

We talked about including an accent colour and decided that we would add accessories in a peachy/pink shade to bring a playful touch to the scheme, which could easily be changed or removed as Ella gets older. For now, we think it brings a perfect happy tone to the room.

HHH4 We incorporated a co-ordinating Josette cushion to Ella’s bed to provide just a touch of colour to the plain white bedding. When I spotted this online, I was expecting the pattern to be printed onto the fabric of the cushion but it is actually beautifully embroidered making this item extra special.

HHH6 A glass light shade and some lightweight, ‘billowy’ curtains fit well with the classic scheme and a bargain antique chair sourced on Gumtree provides a touch of character and the perfect spot for our little book-worm to curl up with a blanket and her latest read.

We also added some fun paper-lantern string lights above the bed, which provide a pop of colour during the day and a lovely warm glow in the evenings.

HHH3 To say that Ella is thrilled with her new bedroom is an understatement. It really is a perfect retreat for our lovely lassie. Thank you so much to the sweet folk at Laura Ashley for inviting us to be a part of the Laura Ashley blog, we are beyond honoured to share our space with your readers and hope to see some of you over at Home Heart Harmony soon! Xx
