When I first arrived at the house I was greeted by Mrs. Callinan. We took a tour to get a feel for the house and its characteristics, which initially wasn’t easy as there was lots of building work happening. After the tour, we took a seat in the lovely spacious garden and got to work.
The brief was to follow the grandeur and style of the building and have striking window treatments that would grab your attention when entering the room.
Glamour, sophistication, and romance were all key points to think about and a neutral pallet was key.
At the back of the house, there are four impressive bay windows. These were the perfect canvas to create the wanted effect.
Full-length curtains with pooling and a leading edge frame the windows and view of the garden. To finish the look I worked together with my curtain fitter Steve Howarth to create bespoke pelmets.
When entering the property you get welcomed into the large hallway, there is a double door leading to the garden. A pelmet would have been too heavy in this room so we opted for a more contemporary finish. Keeping the hallway light and airy.
On the right-hand side of the hallway is a door leading into the Formal living room. Josette Truffle was chosen to create that a glamorous look. The curtains have a leading edge in silk to really accentuate the elegant feel of the room.
The big open plan Kitchen/Dining/Living room also had a Laura Ashley makeover. The kitchen units and cooking island have a Dark Duck Egg finish. To tie in this lovely colour we chose Josette Duck Egg for the curtains, blind and pelmets. The leading edge and piping are Bacall Duck Egg. This key in for this room was to keep it light, fresh and user-friendly. Sophistication played a smaller part in this room but there is a hint of it in the lovely Nigella Duck Egg cushions. They have been paired with some bespoke Josette cushions.
The first bedroom is the bedroom of the oldest daughter, Scarlett. The brief was to create a window treatment for a little girls bedroom, but nothing too pink and the pattern had to be able to grow with Scarlett. After having a look through the samples the decision was made: Oriental Garden Linen. The pattern with birds and butterflies makes it playful but is ‘grown-up’ enough for years to come. Scarlett’s room also benefits from a smaller side window which got dressed with a lovely single curtain and pelmet in the same fabric.
The master bedroom received a full Laura Ashley makeover. Mrs. Callinan wanted a relaxed sophisticated boutique hotel feel. The scheme is therefore neutral with Josette Dark Linen at the heart. We used Josette on the curtains and pelmet. For the feature wall behind the headboard, we chose the matching wallpaper.
A lovely chaise longue found its home within the bay window. This is the perfect spot to read a book or to enjoy the amazing view of the garden. The chaise longue is upholstered in the charming Josette Hearts fabric. The room is very spacious so a snuggler and a Broughton chest of drawers for storage soon got added. The snuggler is upholstered in Villandry Sable. This glamorous fabric is perfect for this room. The finishing touches can be found on the bed with luxurious cushions and embroidered bedding.
The bathroom benefits from French doors leading out to a balcony overlooking the garden.
The roof hangs over a fair bit making it darker compared to the other rooms. As there are no neighbours overlooking the garden our Josette voile fabric was the perfect choice. The fabric is light and fresh and the bathroom has got a relaxed and romantic feel whilst providing some privacy.
Neutral schemes are quite on trend and this has been reflected throughout the property. Splashes of colour can be added when necessary or when wanting a quick change. The Duck Egg colour for the kitchen is timeless.
This has been an amazing project to work on and I feel privileged to have been welcomed into Mr and Mrs Callinans home.
I am so pleased I used the Laura Ashley design service when renovating my house.

I was a little apprehensive at first that the designer might not get my style or push me into purchasing items/fabrics I might not be entirely happy with. However, as soon as I met Annie, she put me at ease.

We spent the afternoon in the garden (as the house was a building site) looking at fabrics etc.
I felt she listened to my ideas, as well as suggesting her own. Annie was also able to advise on what fabrics went well together and talked about different textures etc. Something I would not have thought of.

Annie gave me plenty of time to consider my choices and there was no pressure to place an order.

I have since contacted Annie regarding advice on other soft furnishings and items of furniture for my home through Laura Ashley and Annie has always been happy to help.

Everyone who comes to my house comments on my gorgeous curtains – they look simply stunning!

Overall, I have had a pleasurable experience using Laura Ashley’s design service and will definitely be using them again in the future. I have also recommended them to friends and family.
