Making the best first impressions is always important, this is why it is important to make sure your hallway is looking its best at all time. The gorgeous Sam from Dove Cottage shares with us how she has changed a few things to make sure her hallway is in tip top shape at all times.

Over the past couple of years, we’ve slowly been working through our home, redecorating and revamping each room. Somewhere we’ve totally neglected though is the hallway, despite the fact that its one of the most important areas, being a visitors first look at your home.

Creating that all important good first impression is often easier said than done, as, for us anyway, space is tight and natural lighting is a bit of an issue. So with all this in mind, I decided to give the hallway a long-awaited re-vamp using some gorgeous bits from Laura Ashley’s new AW17 collection. So I have created a warm, welcoming space that better reflects the rest of my home – and is no longer simply a dumping ground for shoes and junk mail!

Untitled-1 The first item I chose was this beautiful Set of 3 Pale Silver LED Candles, for which I’ve put two in a lantern by the front door, using the third to create a display in this awkward space by the stairs. The wonderful thing about these candles is they are battery operated. Particularly vital in our home as open flames with a baby and a scatty puppy probably aren’t the best idea! I have a timer function, where you can set them to come on at the same time every day – which is particularly handy. The flickering glow they give off creates a wonderfully cosy atmosphere to this white space, which can often feel quite cold.

I’ve gone for this stunning Decorative Beaded Edge Mirror Tray. It works well, bouncing light around in this corner and looks lovely when reflecting the candle glow. I couldn’t resist this gorgeous little Glass Trinket Pot either. It’s a stylish way of storing those unattractive little bits and bobs that always seem to find their way into hallways.

To finish off this display I’ve gone for these Hydrangea & Sea Holly Artificial Flowers. They are much larger than I thought they would be and are so realistic looking too. I’m a huge fan of faux flower displays, I think they can bring a touch of nature indoors without the fear of them dying off after a couple of days!

Finally, I chose this Lemington Silver Spot Throw.  I’ve styled it over a basket (to hide all the discarded shoes that seem to collect here!) This throw is absolutely huge, as well as being super thick and cosy. I can’t wait for the nights to draw in so I can curl up under it with a cup of hot chocolate.

I’m so happy with my mini makeover – it just proves you don’t need to redecorate to make a big difference. Simply dressing your hallway with beautiful accessories can create a great first impression to your home.
