Detail is everything, and it has never been more important than this season and Christmas is the chance to decorate our homes with endless glittery and sparkly items. So let’s go ahead and see how the lovely Karen from N4 Mummy is adding the finishing touches to her home this season.
It’s official: Christmas is my favourite time of year and my 3-year-old daughters too. That’s why you’ll find Howard Blake’s score of The Snowman being played in our house in July.
But what I love most about Christmas is the tradition: lights and decorations being brought down from the attic year after year, wrapped in tissue and with a slight layer of dust. Tradition is what Laura Ashley does so well. Beautiful, high quality, nostalgic decorations that instantly feel part of the furniture. The set of six glass angels playing a musical instrument remind me of decorations inherited from my Grandfather. As does the pretty silver lace snowflake bauble.
Whilst traditional, their decorations are still innovative. Just look at this glass bauble, encrusted with silver sequins and beads. I love the novel twist of an LED light making the bauble shimmer and sparkle all the more. Also this incredible wreath with LED lights interwoven amongst the silver pine cones, holly and mistletoe, that makes our Mantelpiece glow.
Flamingos, palm trees and pom poms may be en vogue this year. But you won’t find them on my Christmas tree! I love the minimalist approach to colour; metallics of gold and silver and evergreen foliage mixed with white. Colours that are magical. So, I’ve used Laura Ashley’s silver and white bauble pack, making these the predominant colours, with touches of gold. See this gold star made of bells, and another one covered in pearls and beads adding a little glamour.
We’d all love a white Christmas. If you’re staying in the UK this year it may not happen! So the addition of glittering snowflakes and birds in snow on the wrapping paper count as my little indulgences.
These are all decorations that we’ll be using year after year, as we create our own family traditions. But do tell me, what are your favourite decorations?
