We all know how difficult it can be picking the perfect outfits for a getaway, especially when you‚Äôre travelling abroad for a city break and you have the pesky luggage allowance to consider. It’s vital that you pack for comfort and practicality but you mustn‚Äôt forget about style. You have to look your best; you are on holiday after all. The fabulous Catherine from Dainty Dress Diaries was off to New York so we were thrilled when she wanted to include some Laura Ashley items in her luggage…
I recently had the most amazing city break in New York City. I love the hustle and bustle of a big city and most importantly I love the fashion and style of the Big Apple. When packing for my trip I wanted to take items that were practical to explore in but also trendy and fashionable too. I stayed in Manhattan in Midtown just off 5th Avenue. I wanted to feel glam when I was exploring the city. New York is known for its fab fashion and I love the eclectic mix of people and what they wear so I wanted to fit in.
My favourite outfit of my trip had to be the nautical print skirt and knitted top. It was still quite chilly when I was in New York so the knitted collar top was perfect for keeping that city breeze at bay. I am obsessed with the midi style of skirts at the moment and I loved the boat print of the skirt. The material of the skirt was also perfect for packing as it did not crease in my case. I also loved that the skirt had pockets too.
When travelling I love to pack items that are versatile and can work with each other. The skirt and top could easily be changed up with other items to create a new look. I wore my knitted top with another skirt I had and was able to put together a whole other outfit. I did a lot of walking whilst on my trip and my outfits looked stylish but most importantly they were comfy for all of the walking and exploring I did on my trip.
When I visit a city my main mission is to walk around and see everything. I try and walk as much as I can as I find you stumble across so much more than when you take public transport. I found the quaintest little parks on my walks. The parks were just starting to lose their spring blossoms but I love how even in a big city there is loads of colour and nature.
I did manage to figure out the Subway and bus when I was in New York as my feet did get tired. One of the mornings of my trip I got the train to Brooklyn and walked the Brooklyn Bridge back into Manhattan and took in the amazing views and history of the bridge. I managed to squeeze loads into my trip; I visited the top of the Rockefeller centre, walked the Highline, explored the cute streets of Greenwich Village and took in all the cafes and parks along the way. I just loved not knowing what I would find on each corner as I was exploring.
I had a long flight over to New York so I chose to wear the navy jersey nautical print dress. I had a seven-hour flight going over and wanted to feel comfortable on the plane but I also wanted to look nice and stylish for when I arrived. This cotton dress was perfect for the plane. It was breathable, soft on my skin and it didn’t annoy me whilst I was travelling. It is also the perfect length, not too short but not too long and I teamed it with some tan sandals.
I hope you liked my city break style that I shared today, Have you got a break planned for this summer? You can find me over at Dainty Dress Diaries, come and say hello.
