With the temperature sneaking into single figures, it’s most definitely time to master the art of layering. But this doesn’t mean looking frumpy! With the help of some key Laura Ashley pieces, the super stylish Dulcie from Human Sea Vintage shows us how you can look chic but, most importantly, warm! Take a look below to see how to wear turtlenecks…
When Laura Ashley got in touch to discuss styling up some pieces from their new Autumn Winter 2015 collection, my eye was naturally drawn to the sixties and seventies styles in the offering. And what better way to complement the look than with a versatile turtleneck sweater?
Call them what you will; turtlenecks, polonecks or rollnecks, few wardrobe staples exist with the power to make such an impact upon an outfit, instantly adding a little beatnik cool and elevating a look in one easy step.
For the first look, I paired this Laura Ashley Tweed Shift Dress with a black cashmere turtleneck sweater and patent loafers. The fabric of the shift dress is surprisingly lightweight, making it perfect for layering, and the front pockets are a considered detail. This style would also look cute with a white shirt or blouse for an alternative look.
Dungarees are a staple in my wardrobe all year round and so I couldn’t resist pairing it with this grey marl Laura Ashley top. The top has a relaxed fit and is made of jersey so I teamed it with a tweed coat, knitted hat and chunky shoes to face a chilly day, but it would also work tucked into a midi skirt in the spring.
This is perhaps my favourite look of the three, built around a Corduroy Buckle Detail Skirt. I paired it with another cashmere turtleneck – there’s nothing warmer – and a modish, Peter Pan collar coat. The side buckles are adjustable to ensure a personalised fit and it’s smart enough to be worn for the office with a blouse.
Obviously, the best way to wear a turtleneck is to make sure it’s from Laura Ashley! Coming in a range of colours, there are even more to choose from here…
So there you have it; three wonderfully stylish ways to wear a turtleneck! A big thank you to Dulcie for showing us how to wear turtlenecks – you look absolutely gorgeous! Feeling inspired?
