Dressing for multiple events in one day can be tricky. For all you social butterflies finding an outfit that will take you from day into night can be hard, this is why the gorgeous Kerri-Ann from Life As Our Little Family is here to show us how it is done.
And just like that summer has arrived. With the weather getting warmer, that can only mean one thing – floaty dress season is upon us! My social media feeds are awash with straw bags and hats, feminine florals and pretty dresses. It makes me so happy. Swooshing my way through the cobbled streets of a town nearby in a little floaty dress is a day well spent.
You might be familiar by now with my love for a floaty dress, they really have come into their own over the last couple of years and so my collection continues to grow with this gorgeous scarf print dress from Laura Ashley. I am an eternal lover of a floral dress; they sit in my wardrobe as a solid staple just like a little black dress only mainly in pink, and become a key staple for summer, especially when you want to make use of the longer lighter evenings and go from day into night.
When you think of a classic summer dress, flowers definitely spring to mind. The floaty material will keep you cool in the midday sun, it is light and flowy and so comfortable – the colours are feminine and easy to style.
For me, summer is all about adding a feminine twist to your wardrobe – whether it is a floaty dress, ruffles, a floral print or pastel colours there really is no going wrong. I treat my summer wardrobe like my holiday wardrobe – having staple items which come out each year, classic in style and therefore never going out of fashion. This truly gorgeous ruffle dress coupled with a beautiful candy floss pink cardigan is perfect for my summer capsule wardrobe. Adding a little colour, adding layers on a cool day or transitioning from day into night.
As we were treated to a little heatwave over the weekend it had to be this dress – with its thin straps, floaty skirt and nipped in waist I happily spent a few hours swooshing my way around local gardens and enjoyed afternoon tea with a friend. We went off in search of spring blooms and a cute cafĂ© and stumbled across both. A Sunday well spent brings a week of content.
Short of time before heading out to meet a friend and in preparation for a little date night on my return with my boys I packed a pair of heels and clutch bag. I often find that when I put too much thought into planning an outfit which can transition from day to night it is then lost in translation.
My top tip would be to keep it simple, lose the cardigan and add a little heel. Voila. And so I decided to embrace my inner Mary Poppins at the weekend and pack for every eventuality. A cardigan and sandals by day and some cute heels and a little handbag for the evening.
Whether worn with tan sandals or a cute mint green heel you will be swooshing your way from day to night. It really is the perfect outfit for all occasions – with its layers and floaty fabric it looks casual in the day, then turning to cute heels and bare shoulders by night for a more formal affair. I have even earmarked it for a wedding in September.
