Tim Walker: Story Teller

Somerset House pays tribute to cutting edge fashion photographer Tim Walker read more

We were first blown away by Tim Walker’s fantastical world when we attended the ‘Tim Walker Pictures’ exhibition at The Design Museum in 2008 so we were thrilled to hear his evocative photographs had now taken up residency at Somerset House until the end of January. One of the most exuberant photographers of his generation, Tim Walker’s pictures reach inside the deepest part of our imagination to conjure up a world, which epitomizes the absurd and sublime.

Make a note in your diary for a rare chance to step inside Tim Walker’s vision and get up close to his masterful oversized props, never before seen images and insightful quotes from his beautiful new book (published by Thames&Hudson). Shot entirely in film, be prepared for wonder and surprise from his latest works which are drawn from the pages of leading titles including British, French, American and Italian Vogue, Vanity Fair and W Magazine amongst others.

Highlights for us include his mesmerising portrait of the late Alexander McQueen, Terry Jones and the exploding pipe, Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton turning an Essex Garden centre into a dense macabre and his re-occuring muse Karen Elson up against it with a giant crocodile…

‘Sometimes when you’re taking a picture an extraordinary sense of luck and chance takes over and propels you to make pictures that you couldn’t in your wildest dreams have imagined. This is the magic of photography’. Tim Walker, Story Teller. Page 112
