4. Cleaning & care

To help prolong the life of your upholstery fabric or leather please consider the following:

General Cleaning

Regularly remove everyday dust and dirt, by gently vacuuming fabric with an upholstery brush, or dusting leather with a soft cloth

  • Avoid contact with chemicals, eg. household or baby wipes, hair products, suncream and body lotions.
  • Remove all spills immediately by blotting with a clean dry white cloth; don’t use a damp cloth, apply water, rub or use abrasive cleaners as this may affect the fabric’s properties. Should a spill result in a stain, refer to your Staingard Care Plan or seek professional advice.
  • All fabrics, leather and suede can be affected by heat and light, position away from direct sunlight and at least 30cm from heat sources to protect from fading and premature wear.
  • Avoid exposure to excessively high or low temperatures or damp conditions
  • Lift furniture, don’t drag, to avoid damage to legs and joints, and gently tighten legs from time to time.
  • Stand on a level surface to avoid rocking and damage to the legs or frame. For castor cups, felt pads are recommended.

Fabric - To remove everyday household dust and dirt, clean regularly by gently vacuuming fabric.

Remove all spills immediately. Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry, white cloth, work towards the centre of the spill. Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners as this may damage the furniture. Always test in an inconspicuous area first, such as the back of the sofa, in case the cleaning product has a negative effect on the material. Should the piece become stained or suffer other damage we recommend professional advice is sought. If you have a Staingard Care Plan contact them immediately for advice, alternatively a nationwide service is offered by Safeclean (0800 585693).

Leather - Always apply specialist leather care products which can be obtained from Laura Ashley, and follow the instructions.

To remove atmospheric dust and dirt that could cause premature wear, clean regularly with a soft cloth or brush. Avoid using a vacuum cleaner on leather. Remove all spills immediately. Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry, white cloth, work towards the centre of the spill. Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners, solvents or detergents as this may damage, the furniture. Cabinet and Dining Furniture | General cleaning advice

Always apply specialist Cabinet and Dining Furniture care products which can be obtained from Laura Ashley, and follow the instructions. Glass or mirrored panels should be cleaned using a non solvent based glass cleaner and soft cloth, carefully avoiding contact with wooden or painted sections. Spills should be removed immediately by blotting with a dry cloth. Should the piece become stained or suffer other damage we recommend professional advice is sought. If you have a Staingard Care Plan contact them immediately for advice.

Hard Lacquer or Painted Finish To maintain the appearance of your furniture we recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth. It may occasionally be wiped with a soft cloth very lightly dampened with a Staingard Wood Cleaner available from Laura Ashley, and dried with a lint-free cloth. The repeated use of a silicone-containing polish is not recommended, as it will lead to a build up of a silicone film altering the appearance of the piece.

Cleaning & Care - Oiled Ranges

Oiled furniture will benefit from a limited amount of maintenance to keep it in prime condition. If this maintenance is not carried out the wood may become dry, lose its depth of colour and become more susceptible to staining and watermarking. To help protect oiled furniture products from spills and to keep them looking great, periodic oiling is required. It is easy to carry out; simply apply Danish oil, available at Laura Ashley and follow the instructions for preparation and application.

Cleaning & Care - Mirrored Ranges

To maintain the appearance of your furniture we recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth. Glass or mirrored panels should be cleaned using a non solvent based glass cleaner and soft cloth, carefully avoiding contact with wooden or painted sections.

General Cabinet and Dining Furniture Care

Take care when moving furniture, dragging pieces across the floor will cause damage to the joints, as will dropping furniture onto corners or feet. Leaning backwards on two legs of a chair will weaken joints. Take care to prevent sharp objects such as toys, buckles and heels from coming into contact with your furniture.
