Accessories - Pelmets

Box Pleat Pelmet

A decorative and formal pelmet, giving a more structured and tailored look.

Max. track width to order = 515cms, max length = 60cms.

  • Track - A pelmet track fitted with Velcro is required to hang this pelmet. This is in addition to a curtain track.
  • Features - The Box Pleat Pelmet consists of a flat band of fabric with a pleated section attached at the bottom edge. The stiffened lining attached to the reverse gives the fabric more 'body' but does not make the pelmet completely rigid.
  • Fitting - The pelmet can be attached to a pelmet track or board by 25mm Velcro sewn to the top edge. Self-adhesive Partner tape is supplied as standard, in case your pelmet track or board does not have Velcro already fitted.
  • Piping - Piping cord, covered using the same fabric as the pelmet or a choice of plain coloured fabrics, is attached at the seam joining the flat band to the pleated skirt. Pelmets made from thick fabrics will not have any piping; these fabrics will be indicated as you proceed through your order.
  • Measurements - The flat band is one-third of the pelmet length, and the pleated section is two-thirds. So if a pelmet is 30cms in length, the flat band will be 10cms long and the pelmet section 20cms long.

Full instruction leaflets are enclosed with all pelmets.

Double Pleat Pelmet

A decorative pelmet, giving a more tailored look.

Max. track width to order = 582cms, max. length = 70cms.

  • Track - A pelmet track fitted with gliders to take curtain hooks is required to hang this pelmet. This is in addition to a curtain track.
  • Heading - Double pleated pelmets have a strip of stiffener sewn into the heading, which is pleated and secured at the base to create the double pleat effect. The pleats are 10cms long from the top of the pelmet to the base of the pleat. Pleats along the front section of the pelmet are spaced at intervals and will be consistent within the pelmet. At each end of the pelmet, there is a flat unpleated section of 18cms, which is standard on all widths of this style of pelmet. This flat area is to cover the ends (returns) of your pelmet track or board. If for example, the ends of your pelmet track measure 15cms, the first and last pleats on the front of the pelmet will sit 3cms in from each front corner. As the ends (returns) of tracks and boards vary in depth, it therefore cannot be guaranteed where the first and last pleats will fall in relation to the corners.
  • Hooks - These pelmets are supplied with plastic hooks attached to ratchet sliders, which are sewn into the reverse of each pleat. The height of the hook is adjustable on the ratchet to enable the hanging height of the pelmet to be varied.
  • Fabric - Please be aware that certain fabric patterns, which have wide contrasting stripes or motifs across the width, have one drawback when used on a double pleated pelmet. Since the process by which pleat spaces are calculated is standard, it cannot be guaranteed where each motif or stripe will fall on a finished pelmet.
  • Important Information - Seams on pleated products may appear within the pleat or the space between the pleats. Position of pleats and seams cannot be specified. If using a track to hang this product, maximum depth is 3.5cms (top of track to bottom of glider).

Full instruction leaflets are enclosed with all pelmets.

Flat Pelmet

A simple, stylish alternative to a gathered pelmet.

Max. track width to order = 512cms, max length = 60cms.

  • Track - A pelmet track fitted with Velcro is required to hang this pelmet. This is in addition to a curtain track.
  • Features - The Flat Pelmet is made from a rectangular piece of flat fabric, which has a stiffened lining attached to the reverse. The stiffener gives the pelmet some 'body' but does not make the pelmet completely rigid. The lower edge of the pelmet has a straight edge.
  • Fitting - The pelmet is attached to a pelmet track (or board) by 25mm Velcro sewn to the top edge. Partner tape, self-adhesive, is supplied as standard, in case your pelmet track or board does not have Velcro already fitted.

Pencil Pleat Pelmet

Our most popular pelmet, a classic style.

Max. track width to order = 515cms, max length = 70cms.

  • Track - A pelmet track fitted with gliders to take curtain hooks is required to hang this pelmet. This is in addition to a curtain track.
  • Heading - Pencil pleated pelmets have a 7.5cm wide heading tape with three rows of woven pockets that allows for adjustment in height when hung. The heading tape is set at the top of the pelmet. The heading tape has three drawcords running the length of the tape. The cords are pulled up to create the pencil pleat effect. The cords should be knotted at both ends before gathering the tape. A more softly gathered look will be achieved if the cords are pulled less. Once the pelmet has been drawn up to the required width, the cords should be knotted again close to the edge of the pelmet to keep the pleats in place. The ends of the heading tape have been left open to enable the cords to be neatly hidden away. The cords should never be cut, as it is necessary to untie them and flatten out the gathers for cleaning.
  • Hooks - Curtain hooks are not supplied. Curtain hooks are inserted into the pockets on the heading tape to attach the curtain to the track, and are usually inserted into the middle row of pockets.

Triple Pleat Pelmet

A decorative and more formal pelmet, giving a more tailored look.

Max. track width to order = 465cms, max. length = 70cms.

  • Track - A pelmet track fitted with gliders to take curtain hooks is required to hang this pelmet. This is in addition to a curtain track.
  • Heading - Triple pleated pelmets have a strip of stiffener sewn into the heading, which is pleated and secured at the base to create the triple pleat effect.
  • Fabric - Please be aware that certain fabric patterns, which have wide contrasting stripes or motifs across the width, have one drawback when used on a triple pleated pelmet.

Hanging

  • Full instructions on how to hang your pelmets are on the leaflet included with your product.
  • Please ensure that pelmets do not hang too close to windows or radiators, where both excessive moisture from condensation or excessive heat and dryness can have quite severe effects in terms of dimensional variation and soiling. Condensation can result in the discolouration of the pelmets, which could eventually lead to fabric deterioration.

Care

  • Pelmets can be vacuumed regularly with an upholstery nozzle whilst in situ at the window. This will prevent dust and general household soiling from building up and gradually becoming embedded in the fabric.
  • When the pelmets require cleaning, all removable hooks and other metal or plastic fittings should be removed and retained. Drawstrings should be loosened in order to flatten gathered headings, but not removed.
  • We recommend that matching items be cleaned together.
  • We recommend that all pelmets be Dry Cleaned, according to the label sewn in the product. As you proceed through your order, this information will also be displayed on your selected fabric.
  • Where indicated P, advise your dry cleaner to use a sensitive process.
  • Always allow for 3% shrinkage upon the first Dry Clean.
  • Remove all spills immediately using a clean damp cloth. Do not rub or soak the fabric but dab gently. Treat from the back of the cloth if possible.

Fabric Design

  • Laura Ashley Made to Measure Pelmets are always cut on the same design at the top. Therefore, if you order two pelmets of identical size, in the same fabric, the position of the design will be identical in both. Should you order two or more of a different length in the same fabric, the design will be the same at the top but will differ at the bottom.
  • Where a product has more than one width of fabric, on the seams where they join, the fabric design will be matched. This is with the exception of the Box Pleat Pelmet where the seams of the pleated section are always hidden and therefore are not matched.

Movement of Fabric in Situ

  • Due to variations in atmospheric conditions such as humidity and temperature, there may be a possibility of shrinkage or relaxation of pelmets whilst in situ at the window. It is important that the temperature and humidity of the surrounding environment should be controlled in order to prevent the movement.
  • As such conditions are beyond the control of Laura Ashley, we are unable to accept any responsibility for the movement of pelmets when hung.

Hanging

  • Please ensure that products do not lie too close to windows or radiators, where both excessive moisture from condensation or excessive heat and dryness can have quite severe effects in terms of dimensional variation and soiling. Condensation can result in the discolouration of the products, which could eventually lead to fabric deterioration.

Care

  • We recommend that matching items be cleaned together (in particular tiebacks with curtains).
  • We recommend that all Tie Backs be Dry Cleaned, according to the label sewn in the product.
