Beds

Selecting Your Bed

Laura Ashley bedsteads are beautiful, decorative and will provide a definite classic or contemporary look to your bedroom. A bedstead consists of a head and end board with a wooden slatted base for the mattress to rest on. Laura Ashley offer a range of both metal and wooden beds which feature either sprung or solid slats. Sprung slats offer cushioned support, solid slats offer a firmer base. Some of our beds are sold complete with mattress included, whilst others are sold separately to allow you the flexibility to choose your own mattress. We offer a wide range of quality mattresses to ensure your complete comfort; full details are available in the Laura Ashley catalogue or on our website.

Consider the size of your bedroom when deciding on a bed size. Enough room to walk around the bed is required, and don't forget the rest of the bedroom furniture need to fit in too! Leave ample space for the bedroom and wardrobe doors to open.

Mattress Size

  • Please ensure that the mattress you intend using is compatible with the dimensions of your chosen bed before purchase. Bed dimensions are available from the Laura Ashley catalogue or our website.
  • Laura Ashley offers a wide range of quality mattresses fully compatible with our bed range.
  • As with all slatted beds some slight movement of the mattress on the smooth slats should be expected.

  • Laura Ashley metal beds are beautifully crafted and feature hand poured castings and sprung slats. We offer a choice of sizes to suit all needs.
  • Beds are available in ivory; all Laura Ashley paint finishes are durable.
  • All of our metal beds are sold as self assembly, assembly is very simple and full instructions will be enclosed with your product.
  • If you are short on space but want an extra bed for visitors take a look at our metal day beds. Instead of drawers under your bed, there's another bed. Pull it out and it can be raised to the same height as the bed to create a large double sleeping space or two singles.
  • Metal beds are not suitable for children 6 years and under because of the entrapment hazard.

Features of Metal Cast Beds

Our beds are hand finished so it is important to understand their unique properties which add to the individuality of each piece.

Pouring Points

  • These are a feature of all cast beds and are formed as part of the casting process where the molten metal is poured into the mould. These pouring points are then hand fettled but may appear as small raised areas around joints.

Movement

  • To prevent movement check all fixings are tight and secure before use. From time to time all fixings and joints will require tightening to prevent loosening which can create squeaks and movement, full instructions are enclosed with your product.
  • Most squeaks can be resolved by retightening.

Maintenance of Metal Cast Beds

  • To maintain the appearance of your Bed we recommend regular dusting with a soft cloth.
  • Spills should be removed immediately, in particular do not allow liquid to remain on your slats as this can cause wood to warp or finishes to de-laminate.
  • Stubborn stains may be wiped with a soft cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and dried with a lint-free cloth. Do not use abrasives or scouring creams.

Maintenance of Mattress and Bed Sets

  • To prolong the life of your mattress please follow the guidelines below:
  • We recommend turning mattresses every month to ensure even wear and prolong the life of your mattress. Mattresses should be turned monthly in rotation, both top to bottom and side to side.
  • Avoid sitting on the edges of your mattress as this will compress the sides and distort the shape.
  • We strongly recommend that you prevent liquid coming into contact with the mattress surface and fillings, as this can cause damage, the use of a mattress protector offers some additional protection from soiling.
  • Laura Ashley offer a range of machine washable mattress and pillow protectors see catalogue or website for details.

Levelling Beds

  • It is essential that your bed be positioned on a level and solid surface so the frame sits correctly and movement is minimized.

Sunlight and Heat

  • Avoid exposing your bed to direct sunlight as this may prematurely fade the colour, in addition a minimum clearance of 30cm from heat sources is advised.

Fabric Cleaning

Follow the specific instructions for each fabric carefully and always check the label, as recommended care for the fabric may differ from the recommended care for the product. Fixed and loose covers can be professionally cleaned in situ.

  • Dry Clean Only Sensitive Dry Clean Only
  • Washed Linen is washable at 40°.
  • Most of our fabrics have a protective coating applied (excluding Washed Linen, Evedon, Floral Linen, Sienna and Cassie), however as with all upholstery, periodic cleaning of the entire piece is essential to maintain appearance and prevent premature fading and wear.
  • Clean co-ordinated items at the same time, as some colour loss may occur.
  • Always allow for 3% shrinkage upon the first wash or dry clean.
  • To remove everyday household dust and dirt, clean regularly by gently vacuuming fabric.
  • Remove all spills immediately. Blot liquid spills with a clean, dry, white cloth, work towards the centre of the spill. Do not rub or use abrasive cleaners as this may damage the furniture. Should the piece become stained or suffer other damage we recommend professional advice is sought. If you have Guardsman Protection Plan contact them immediately for advice, alternatively a nationwide service is offered by Safeclean (0800 585693).

Sunlight and Heat

  • All upholstery and leather fabrics can be affected by light, so we recommend it is positioned away from direct sunlight and heat to protect it from fading and premature wear.
  • At least a 30cm clearance from heat sources such as radiators is advised to prevent colour change or permanent marks occurring.

Care

  • Take care to prevent sharp objects such as toys, buckles and heels from coming into contact with your furniture as they may cause damage. We recommend you discourage domestic pets from climbing on or clawing upholstery.
  • Avoid air pollution such as cigarette smoke and cooking fumes, which can cause leather ad fabric to fade or change colour.
  • Take care to avoid hair preparations and other cosmetics coming into contact with the fabric or leather; as this is likely to damage the surface.
  • Place furniture gently in place when moving it, as dropping onto glides or legs may cause damage. Please do not allow your furniture to be jumped on, as this will damage the springs and frame, and invalidate the guarantee.
  • We recommend wooden and delicate flooring is protected from possible marking by feet or castors.
